Preparing Job Search Materials

The job search process requires that you market yourself. Treat job search materials, such as resumes and interviewing skills, as print ads and commercials for you – the product. The more time you spend assessing your skills and abilities and fine-tuning the presentation of that information, the stronger your materials will be. This section will help you develop solid job search materials. However, remember that it is ultimately up to you to sell yourself well.

The following are samples of resumes and cover letters written and used by Smith students and recent Smith alums. These documents can provide a guide for you as you create your own job search materials. Note that each resume and letter is formatted slightly different, yet all communicate a clear and concise picture of the skills and attributes the candidate has to offer. Your job search materials should be uniquely yours, but strive to have a clean and professional format, be certain your materials are error free, and focus on highlighting your skills and what makes you a qualified candidate.

If you would like someone to review your job search materials call the OCM front desk at       301-405-2301 to schedule an appointment with a career counselor.
