Throughout the world, advancements in
communications and information technology
continue to drive innovative ways of doing
business, creating new markets, industries
and careers. The Smith School enables ambitious,
talented men and women to become Leaders
for the Digital Economy and set the new
pace of business.
Led by the
graduate
student program, Smith
prepares MBAs with a multidisciplinary curriculum,
integrating an in-depth education in core
business functions (accounting, finance,
management, marketing and others) with cross-functional
focus areas (e.g., e-commerce, telecommunications,
and supply chain management). Our top-rated
faculty attracts exceptional students who
share their broad professional experiences
in the classroom.
The
undergraduate
program at Smith recognizes
the need for professional education in business
and management based on a foundation in
the liberal arts and core business and management
principles. The Smith School is dedicated
to preparing students to lead organizations
in an economy fueled by technology, globalization
and new venture opportunity.
In response to students and employers,
the Smith School of Business Office of
Career Management (OCM) wishes to create
the most equitable and mutually
beneficial framework for managing
scenarios surrounding the timing of job
offers and their required acceptance
dates.
The Smith OCM requests that employers
abide by the offer policies in the
scenarios below for the purpose of
allowing our students sufficient time to
carefully consider employment options
and make informed decisions.
Full-time Offers to Summer Interns Students should be given until
November 1, 2007 to accept or decline
offers to allow them time to participate
in fall on-campus recruiting. Requiring
decisions prior to this date deprives
not only the student the opportunity to
consider all available options, but also
deprives other employers the opportunity
for equal access to students during the
typical fall recruiting season.
Full-time Offers from Fall 2007
On-Campus Recruiting Students graduating in the
spring or summer of 2008 should be given
until November 26, 2007 or a minimum of
three weeks (whichever comes later) to
accept or decline offers.
Students graduating in December 2007
should be given a minimum of three weeks
from the date of offer to accept or
decline.
Full-time Offers from Spring 2008
On-Campus Recruiting Students should be given until
March 7, 2008 or a minimum of three
weeks (whichever comes later) to accept
or decline offers.
Internship Offers for Summer 2008 Students should be given until March 3,
2008 or a minimum of two weeks
(whichever comes later) to accept or
decline offers.
Exploding Offers The Smith OCM requests that
employers not make exploding offers,
defined as offers that do not afford a
candidate the appropriate time as stated
in the above policies to either accept
or decline, and/or that has special
incentives attached, including but not
limited to diminishing bonuses and
location preferences.
In the spirit of collaboration, the
Smith OCM hopes that employers will
abide by the above guidelines so that a
level and equitable framework can be
used by all. Note that we also greatly
appreciate your letting us know of any
students who renege on an acceptance of
an internship or full-time job offer so
that respective and appropriate action
can be taken.

Management will gladly advertise position announcements

Our goal is to provide you with the most
effective process for you to recruit our
students. Although employers are not required
to utilize the on-campus interview process,
employers interviewing students on-campus
typically experience more productive interview
sessions than those interviewing students
off-campus. This is due primarily to:
All logistics related
to interviews – including student notification
and scheduling of candidate interview
slots – are handled by trained staff,
allowing up to 12 interviews to be conducted
per interviewer.
Students are generally
more interested in companies that interview
actively on campus as they value the
relationships companies build over time
Students generally
have greater flexibility in matching
available interview times to their class
schedules
Interviewers tend
to be less distracted due to a lack
of normal office interruptions
Our interview facilities have been designed
with employers in mind. We have gone to
great lengths to ensure that whenever possible,
you are able to conduct business in addition
to your interviews. Each of our 12 spacious
interview rooms is equipped with phone access
and a high-speed Internet terminal for access
to corporate resources. An Employer Lounge
also provides an opportunity for you to
relax or network with your peers.
Once you have developed a marketing plan
and have settled on a company presentation
date, three steps need to be taken to facilitate
on-campus interview scheduling:
Step 1: Choose
interview dates - In conjunction with
company presentations and marketing
initiatives, please refer to the
calendars
here to develop a schedule
of dates to conduct interviews. We will
accommodate your needs as best we can,
based on availability.
Step 2: Determine
the number of interviews to conduct
- for example, in one day up to 13 candidates
can be interviewed with 30-minute interviews;
up to nine candidates can be interviewed
with 45-minute interviews.
Step 3:
Access
HireSmith to submit a recruiting
request.
Resume databases for business students
are available through the Office of Career
Management in searchable, online form. These
databases help companies identify high potential
candidates early on and may be used as a
supplement to the on-campus interviewing
pre-select process.
If you would like to access our resume
database (HireSmith) you will need to
establish an account (if you do not
already have one). Please click
here to access
HireSmith and search the
resume database or post positions
electronically.
