Fall 2007 - College Park Scholars Service Day

Service Day: All incoming freshmen in the College Park Scholars program participate in a service project before the fall semester. In 2007 BSE students spent Service Day at Progress Place in downtown Silver Spring.

They helped the daytime homeless shelter prepare for winter by cleaning out a storage closet and filling it with blankets. They also worked outside the facility by mulching all around the property and painting the outside tables.

Later in the day, the Director of the non-profit that runs the facility met with the students to engage them in devising strategies to meet a marketing challenge. The students will work on this challenge during the first semester.
