Request BB Course and Other BB Spaces

Course instructors are required to request term-based Blackboard courses every semester using Campus-wide ELMS Management system or many times referred as "LOT Tool". You will be notified via e-mail regarding the course setup along with some basic information and instructions. Faculty and staff can request other non-term-based spaces such as Master Courses and Organization spaces as well.

Use ELMS Management Tool to request All Blackboard spaces
   Request Term-based Courses:
Login to BB system at http://bb.rhsmith.umd.edu --> go to "Faculty" tab --> click on "Request a Course or Organization Space", ELMS-mgmt page with link to "Request ELMS Space" will be showing. Click on Single Courses, Default Template (in almost all the cases), or Multiple-Course space (for cross-listed courses only), courses you are going to teach in that semester will be listed. Hit on the corresponding "Request Space" link, your request is sent. Usually within 2-3 hours, your course will be ready. The system will send the instructor an approval message with some basic information and instructions when it processes the request.

Note that the courses you are requesting should have been registered in SIS already with your named listed as Instructor. You can verify the course info from Testudo and your UMEG account.

Request Non-term BB Courses and Organization Spaces:
Faculty and staff can also use ELMS Tool to request Non-Term Based Courses such as Master Course, Non-credit workshop course or Organization spaces for Student Group, Department, Research Group, etc. These Blackboard spaces have about the same features and functions as a term-based course. While Organization space does not have Gradebook function and related features (such as Assignment Tool).
You can access these request forms by going to "Request ELMS Space" page as well.
For detailed instructions about requesting BB spaces and manage members, check this document.
