Timothy Simons, MBA '03, was promoted to Vice President and Senior Compliance Officer of the Legislative and Regulatory Unit of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco.

Darren Ngiau, MBA '02, joined Star Alliance, the leading global airline alliance. He will be relocating from the DC Metro area to Frankfurt, Germany, and will be managing Star's Common IT Platform and architecture.

Jeannette Lopez '06, graduated from Cornell University with a Master's of Industrial and Labor Relations. She will be joining General Mills as an Assistant Human Resources Manager for Yoplait in Murfreesboro, TN.

Dominic A. Labitzky, B.S. '02, has joined the Banking Regulation and Policy Group of the Federal Reserve Board's Legal Division.

Michelle Salob, MBA '00, married Richard Freiberg on November 10, 2007 in Baltimore, Maryland. Michelle continues to live in Atlanta, Georgia where she works as a consultant for Hewitt Associates, focusing on talent and leadership. Michelle recently managed Hewitt's global Top Companies for Leaders research study, the results of which were published in the October 1 issue of FORTUNE magazine.

Nicholas C. Crecca, BS '74, passed away on November 10, 2007 from a primary malignant brain tumor called Glioblastoma Multiforme. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Barbara, and their 3 daughters.

Eugene L. Podsiadlo, MBA '81, has been named to the International Advisory Board of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, Monterey Institute, an affiliate of Middlebury College, in Monterey, CA. He continues to serve on the Board of Directors of Wasatch Advisors, Inc., a asset management/venture capital firm in Salt Lake City, UT.

Melyssa Fratkin, '01, has been named Director of External Relations for the Texas Advanced Computing Center, at the University of Texas at Austin. She oversees the center's public relations activities, corporate partnerships, education & outreach programs, and international collaborations.

Ian L. Gresham, '01, recently earned a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and has joined Danaher, a DC-based industrial conglomerate, as a participant in their general manager development program. Ian and his wife, Elaine, will be settling in Baltimore, MD as he joins the Danaher Tool Group in Sparks, MD.

Nate Tibbits, MBA '01, was named Chief Operating Officer of the Center for a New American Security this spring. Officially launched in Washington, DC in June 2007, CNAS is a a research-based think tank dedicated to developing strong and pragmatic national security policies.

Lindsay Littlefield '03 married Ryan Schoonmaker, a UMD mechanical engineering major, on October 1st in Francestown, NH.

KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, announced that Timothy M. Phelps '91, of KPMG’s Baltimore office, has been admitted into the partnership of the U.S. firm. KPMG admitted 134 new partners and principals nationwide for 2006.

Laura (Grandy) McGann, MBA '03, a Partner with The Clarion Group, was selected as one of Hartford Business Journal's Top 40 Under Forty. Laura was chosen by an independent panel of business leaders and recognized for her talents and skills making a difference in our business and social communities. As a Clarion partner, Laura's works with leaders in the areas of business strategy, structure and behavior. She is also serving on the YMCA Camp Woodstock Board of Managers.

Raj S. Leyl, MBA '96, PMP, has been appointed chief operating officer of RelianceNet, an IT solutions company based in Annapolis, MD. Leyl, who was most recently a senior management consultant at BAE Systems Inc., will focus on high-level strategic issues and hands-on project management.

Jeffrey A. Haslem, MBA '93 has accepted a position as CIO of Macrovision in Santa Clara, CA.

Montcalmo, MBA '71, recently took an early retirement after 35 years in the Human Resources field, most recently as Director, Worldwide Compensation and International HR Programs, for McCormick & Co., Inc., in Maryland, to join the full-time faculty in the Graduate Human Resource Development Program at Towson University.

Paul Mason, MBA '95, has joined VF Corporation in Greensboro, N.C. as Director of Corporate Communications. VF Corporation is a leader in branded apparel with brands such as Wrangler, Lee, JanSport, Eastpak, The North Face, Vans and Reef.

A. Thomas Finnell ’76 is executive vice president of Maryland First Financial Services Corp., a Baltimore-based firm that specializes in financial issues pertaining primarily to intellectual property, valuation matters, and services related to bankruptcy and insolvency.

Donald A. Gabriel ’62 was appointed by Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich to the Board of Trustees of Baltimore City Community College in July 2005.

Zev Kaplan ’74 is founder of a law firm concentrating its practice in the areas of transportation, infrastructure, government relations, and business and administrative law. He is general counsel to Cash Systems Inc., a publicly traded company in the financial services business, and general counsel to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, where he played a key policy role in the start-up of the local transit systems and their facilities.

Matthew Klein ’95 and his wife Kristine announce the adoption of 3½ year old Sasha Tatiana Klein from Russia. Klein is the director of pricing and revenue management for Air Tran Airways in Orlando, Fla.

Joseph Lieberson ’64 retired earlier this year after 38 years as a senior economist within the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID.) During his career he worked in 40 countries to improve the income and welfare of the poor, living in places as diverse as Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Kenya. The University of Maryland is a tradition in the family: his wife, Ann Newlin Leiberson received her B.A. in history in 1995; son Matthew received a B.A. in economics in 1993 and son Daniel received a B.A. in business administration in 1990 and an MBA in 2004.

James Melonas ’70 founded Empyrean Partners, a business development and management advisory firm that serves early/mid-stage telecommunications and information technology companies.

Meg G. Mekelburg, MBA ’82, is the administrative assistant for Howard County CONNECTIONS and co-founder of Individual Differences in Learning, a nonprofit organization that supports children with learning disabilities and ADHD.

Jay H. Nussbaum ’66 is the global head of sales, marketing and business development for Citigroup Global Transaction Services, a division of Citigroup which handles cash management, trade, securities services and fund services.

Ronald Holtz, MBA ’92, joined MaxCyte, Inc., a clinical stage therapeutic company and pioneer in clinical scale, non-viral cell loading systems, as Chief Financial Officer.

Matthew Hussion ’00 is engaged to Heidi Downing. Hussion is a financial analyst for Ryan Homes in West Chester, PA.

Jill Kaminsky ’02 is married to Adam Washecka. Kaminsky is the operations coordinator for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, D.C.

Maurice I. Long ’70 is chief executive officer of the MIL Corporation, which provides professional IT, financial management/systems and e-business services to federal agencies and private sector clients.

Ron Meliker ’74 is chief operating officer of the Kane Company. He is also a director of the Howard County, MD, Chamber of Commerce.

Marc Miranian ’01 is engaged to Cheryl Raab. Miranian is an account executive for Enterprise Leasing Company.

Lawrence Twele was recentely hired as the Director for the Carroll County Department of Economic Development. He is responsible for fostering the economic health of Carroll County by building a positive climate to advance business expansion and new business development. The department offers a marketable supply of industrial buildings and land, provides customized research, financing and regulatory assistance as well as workforce development, training and business advocacy.

Edward P. Webster, ’69
Edward P. Webster, a retired financial systems manager for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., died of congestive heart failure and diabetes on November 17, 2004 at Northwest Hospital Center. The Columbia resident was 57.

J. David Pincus, ’70, PhD ’94
J. David Pincus  was awarded second in a National Geographic competition for a photo he took in Paris. The photo will be published in the January/February 2005 issue.

Frank M. Reich, '85
Frank M. Reich’s participation in the greatest comeback in football history is chronicled in the book Marv Levy: Where Would You Rather Be? Reich, who graduated in 1985, quarterbacked for the Terps and went on to play for the Buffalo Bills from 1985 to 1994.
