Michael K. Lavine, Ph.D. is an Adjunct Professor in the Accounting and Information Assurance Department at the Robert H. Smith School of Business where he teaches the Accounting Systems – BMGT326 course.  Dr. Lavine is widely published as noted by his 25 publications in journal articles, international academic conference papers, research monographs and book chapters.  His research has appeared in such publications as: The International Journal of Auditing, Review of Business Information Systems, Review of Accounting Information Systems, The CPA Journal and Journal of Business Cases.  Prior to his academic career, Dr. Lavine
spent 12 years in industry including his last two years in the IT Audit and Security practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP where he supervised large engagements in the Baltimore-Washington area.  He has worked on three major grants during his academic career including projects for the Institute of Internal Auditors, US-Israel Science and Technology Foundation and Department of Defense.   

Professor Lavine received his Ph.D. in Management at Sir John Cass Business School - City University in London, England where his dissertation project focused on cyber security information sharing as it relates to U.S. Critical Infrastructure Protection. In addition, he
received a M.S. in Information and Telecommunication Systems from Johns Hopkins
University, a MSc. in Internal Auditing and Management from City University in London, England and a B.S. in Finance from Touro College.  Dr. Lavine’s research interests are in: IT Auditing, Accounting Information Systems, Critical Infrastructure Protection and Information Assurance Policy.
