Ronni Burns has been a consultant and a corporate officer as well as an award-winning
speaker and educator for more than 25 years. Most recently she was a Senior Vice
President at Citigroup serving as the Client Advocate for the North America retail
businesses. Her career at Citigroup included serving as Director of Business Practices,
Global Spokesperson, and the National Sales Manager for Citicorp Investment Services.
As a professor and consultant, Ms. Burns develops and delivers courses in communications,
effective presentations, consultative selling, management, ethics and appropriate
workplace behavior to thousands of executives. Her clients include Aetna, A.G. Edwards,
BJ Nursing Homes, Citigroup, Corning Glass, Credit Lyonnais, Cyber Dialogue, Dean
Witter, Disney, Federated Investors, Fidelity, GE, Hewlett Packard, ING, Macquarie
Bank, Merrill Lynch, Munich-American Risk Partners, Nike Securities, Oppenheimer
Funds, PaineWebber, Raymond James, and Sinclair Broadcasting.
Ms. Burns has been a Senior Fellow and Adjunct Professor of Communications at
the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland since 2002.
Her expertise is working with executives to improve their communication skills.
She has been involved in the curriculum design and delivery of degree and non-degree
custom programs on various communication topics. Courses have been offered in the
MBA and EMBA Executive Skills core and elective curriculum. Custom clients include:
Black & Decker, Hughes Network Systems, Nextel, Entergy, Otis Elevator, (Beijing
China), SAIC and Anne Arundel Health Systems. She was a guest lecturer at international
schools including Graduate School of Business Administration, Zurich and Royal Melbourne
Institute of Technology, Australia. Ms. Burns was a speaker at NAWMBA Annual Conference
(National Association of Women MBAs). Ronni received the Top 15% Teaching Award
for the 2007-2008 academic year from the University of Maryland.
Ms. Burns has been an Adjunct Professor of Communications at the University of
Connecticut, has lectured at New York University’s Stern School of Business and
taught for several years at the Wharton School for Executive Education. She has
been a speaker at numerous industry and leadership conferences. Ms. Burns was a
Trustee at the Securities Industry Association for 10 years, serving on the curriculum
committee. She also served on the Board of the Albert Ellis Institute for Rational
Living, and was a pro bono consultant to Save the Children.
In her book "Communication Essentials: A Sell-abration", 2001, Ms. Burns shares
her insights into the complicated business of building relationships. She offers
practical suggestions for communicating with maximum impact through “tailored communication”.
Ronni Burns holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania
and a Master of Arts in Communication Science from the University of Connecticut.
She held NASD licenses Series 7, 22, 24 and 63.
Ronni is a professionally certified Executive and Life Coach currently earning
her Associate Certified Coach (ACC) accreditation from the International Coach Federation.
