YOU ARE A LEADER

Selected Robert H. Smith School of Business employees will have the opportunity to take part in the UMD-Smith Leadership Academy, the first-ever leadership development program created just for Smith School staff. Students will take courses from Smith School faculty in a variety of areas including: customer service excellence, project management, strategic thinking, financial acumen, negotiations, and leadership. Each individual selected will be a part of a group of peers who aspire to grow professionally in their own personal and professional development and who are committed to the vision, mission and values of the Smith School.

Who Should Participate in this Academy?

Director level positions or below within the organization

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Employee has been employed at the Smith School for at least one full year
  2. Employee must have received a “Meets” or “Exceeds” expectations on their last PRD
  3. Employee must be a full-time business school employee (100% FTE)
  4. Employee must have supervisor and/or senior leader recommendation, commitment and approval

Expectations of UMD – Smith Leadership Academy participants

  1. Attend orientation, all courses, and the final presentation session over the three-month period
  2. Complete all homework, final projects and presentations
  3. Present a final project to your supervisor (ideally as part of the final half day session)
  4. Incorporate what you learn into your current position
  5. Continue to fully meet the expectations of your current position

Selection Criteria

  1. Relevance of program to applicant’s current position
  2. Relevance to applicants future growth potential within the Robert H. Smith School of Business
  3. Strong letter of support from supervisor and/or senior leader
  4. Strength of employees written statement of interest

Application Process

  1. Verify with your supervisor that you are eligible to participate in the Smith Leadership Academy (See Eligibility Criteria)
  2. Complete and submit materials by the application deadline date
  3. Application must be completed and signed by applicant, supervisor and/or senior leader
