Guidelines For Workshop Presentations
Sessions
At WHITE 2011, Paper presentations during the regular
sessions will be 30 minutes (4-paper sessions are 2 hours long and 3-paper
sessions are 1.5 hours long). Presenters will each have 20 minutes for their
presentation, followed by 5 minutes of discussion/comments by the assigned
paper discussant, and 5 minutes of Q&A open to all participants.
The last discussant in each session will be the
session chair to help keep the session on time. WHITE discussants are
encouraged to coordinate with the presenting authors to discuss the paper
before the workshop, and may arrange to receive advance copies of the
presentation. Both presenters and discussants should email their slides to
whitepaper@rhsmith.umd.edu by
midnight October 20 to be preloaded. Please also
bring a back-up copy on a USB thumb drive. The format of the slides should
be PowerPoint 2003/2007/2008/2010 compatible, or PDF.
Short Presentations Guidelines
Each day there is a dedicated short presentation session.
Each presenter will get 5 minutes and up to 7 slides (1 title slide and up to 6
content slides). It is important that presenters plan their remarks, as we will
adhere strictly to the timing guidelines.
We have created a
presentation template which we
suggest, but do not require you to adopt. Please name
the presentation file WHITE2011-SX-slides_format-to-use.ppt where
SX is the number of your paper as found in the workshop program: if your
presentation is s05, the file should be white2011-S5-slides.ppt. Short
presentation authors should email the file to
whitepaper@rhsmith.umd.edu by
midnight October 20, 2011, so we can pre-load the
slides.
Additionally, we will provide a dedicated space
for the authors to post more detailed information from the research, which
is located in the main conference venue for the entire two days of the
workshop. Please refer to poster presentation guidelines for formatting and
size.
Poster Presentation Guidelines
Presenters will be provided with a poster display space
measuring 48 x 48 inches, on which they can attach
either a poster sheet or individual tiled sheets (thumb tacks
will be provided). The suggested poster size is 48 x 36, and can be
positioned either horizontally or vertically.
Providing Electronic Copies of Papers for Website
Authors of all papers are welcome to submit updated
version of their submissions. The submissions will be included in a
downloadable zip archive, which will be shared with the conference
participants only. All papers should be emailed to
whitepaper@rhsmith.umd.edu in pdf form.
The name of the attachment should be
white2011-xz-paper.pdf (all lowercase) where xz is the order number listed
on the program page (like 1.1, s.1). Thus the pdf file for the Session 2.3
should be named WHITE2011-23_paper.pdf, and short presentation s.4 should be
named WHITE2011-s4_paper.pdf. These pdf files should be received no later
than midnight of October 17. If you send updated versions of a file, do not
change the file name. More recent versions (as determined by the date of the
email) will replace earlier versions. In addition, updated versions should
also be sent to your respective discussant.
WHITE does not assume copyright over work accepted
for presentation and does not publish conference proceedings.
If you have additional questions, please send an
email to
whitepaper@rhsmith.umd.edu or
contact the workshop organizers.
