Guidelines For Workshop Presentations
Sessions
At WHITE 2010, there are 7 sessions of regular presentations. Paper
presentations during the sessions will be 30 minutes (4-paper sessions are 2
hours long and 3-paper sessions are 1.5 hours long). Paper presenters will
each have 20 minutes for their presentation, followed by 5 minutes of
discussion/comments by the assigned paper discussant. This will be followed
by 5 minutes of Q&A open to all participants.
The last discussant in each session will be the session chair to help
keep the session on time. WHITE discussants are encouraged to
coordinate with the presenting authors to discuss the paper before the
workshop, and may arrange to receive advance copies of the presentation.
Both presenters and discussants should email their slides to
whitepaper@rhsmith.umd.edu
by midnight October 5 to be preloaded. Please also bring a back-up copy on
a USB thumb drive. The format of the slides should be
PowerPoint 2003/2007/2008 compatible, or PDF.
Short Presentations Guidelines
There are two short presentation sessions during lunch time. Each
presenter will get 5 minutes and up to 7 slides (1 title slide and up to 6
content slides). Given the tight timing constraints, it is important that
presenters plan their remarks; we will adhere strictly to the timing
guidelines.
Important: We have created a presentation template which we suggest, but do not require you to adopt:
PowerPoint
Format. Please name the presentation file
“white2010s##-slides.pptx” (all letters lowercase) where s## is the number
of your paper as found in the workshop program: if your presentation is s05,
the file should be “white2010s05-slides.pptx”. Short presentation authors
should email the file to
whitepaper@rhsmith.umd.edu
by
midnight October 5, 2010, so we can
pre-load the slides.
Additionally, we will provide a dedicated space for the authors to
post more detailed information from the research, which is located in the
main conference venue for the entire two days of the workshop. Please refer
to poster presentation guidelines for formatting and size.
Poster Presentation Guidelines
Presenters will be provided with a poster display space measuring
48” x 48” , on which they can attach either a poster sheet or individual
tiled sheets (thumb tucks will be provided). The suggested poster size is
48” x 36”, and can be positioned either horizontally or vertically.
Providing Electronic Copies of Papers for Website
Authors of all papers are welcome to submit updated version of their submissions.
The submissions will be included in a downloadable zip archive, which will be shared with
the conference participants only. All papers should be emailed
to
whitepaper@rhsmith.umd.edu in pdf form, and the name of the attachment
should be white2010-xz_paper.pdf (all lowercase) where
- For papers presented in sessions x is the session number
(x would be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7), and z would be 1, 2, or 3 depending
on whether the paper is listed in the program as 1st, 2nd or 3rd in that
session), and
- For papers in short presentations, x should be “s” and z such
that z is the number of the paper as listed in the workshop program.
- For papers in the Friday poster track, x should be "p" (lower case)
and z such that pz is the number of the paper as listed in the workshop
program.
Program:
http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/chids/white/program_details
Thus the pdf file for the 3rd paper in Session 2
should be named WHITE2010-23_paper.pdf, and the pdf file for
paper corresponding with the 5th poster should be named
WHITE2010-p5_paper.pdf. Short presentation #4 should be
named WHITE2010-s4_paper.pdf. These pdf files should be
received no later than midnight of
October 1. If you
send updated versions of a file, do not change the file
name. More recent versions (as determined by the date of the
email) will replace earlier versions. Initially, the
version of the paper included in the zip archive will be the
original submission. In addition, updated versions should also be
sent to your respective discussant.
WHITE does not assume copyright over work accepted for presentation
and does not publish conference proceedings.
If you have additional questions, please send an email to
whitepaper@rhsmith.umd.edu or contact the workshop organizers.
